Support SleepyHead Development
How can SleepyHead be free?[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
SleepyHead is free software, but to state the obvious, software doesn't materialize out of thin air, or somehow manage to write itself.
Free software is more than just "free as in beer", it encapsulates something far more than this. It's free in that both you, as the user, and me as the author have been granted freedoms that are not available in the commercial software world.
I'll spare you any further of the Richard Stallman speech. ;)
The long and the short of it: I absolutely love the concept of free software, and I love having something worthwhile to share with others.
Ways to support SleepyHead Development[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
Donations[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
Money makes the world go round, and even foggy OpenSource developers like me need coffee/chocolate/food/etc. I certainly don't expect to make a living providing free software, but I currently have health issues that pretty much restrict what I can do elsewhere.
Any support you can give in this way is always appreciated, by both me and my hard-working and loving wife who is currently supporting me.
If you would prefer to donate using another method, please contact me.
Hardware[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
I'd love to extend the range of hardware supported by SleepyHead. If you have a spare data-capable machine you no longer need as a backup, that is not supported by sleepyhead yet, and you would like to donate it so I can develop support, please contact me.
When support is completed, it can be passed on to someone else in need.
Documentation[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
If your feeling creative and linguistic, and you wish to help with the SleepyHead wiki, or other related documentation, please contact contact me. Also, check out the following thread on CPAPTalk:
Translation[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
I've been tinkering away with preparing for stuff. I would love to see SleepyHead available in other languages. There is a tool available called "QtLinguist", which allows SleepyHead to be translated into other languages. Right now, I don't know enough about the software translation process.. If you've had experience translating other programs, I'd love to hear from you.
Testing[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
All software has bugs, especially early on. I can only spot bugs that affect platforms and datasets I have access to. Reporting these bugs to SleepyHead's bug tracker on SourceForge is very important, but please check thoroughly for duplicates first, as this list can be a nightmare to maintain. Here is a link where you can Report Bugs.
Building from source code[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
This one is a particularly helpful way of testing SleepyHead, although it requires a bit of technical skill. If you build SleepyHead from source code using QtSDK, from within QtCreator (in Debug mode), it can provide much deeper insight into particular problems. It will stop on the line of a crash. You don't need to be a programmer to do this, but you need to know your way around the build process. See the section on Building From Source Code
I am particularly grateful for the efforts of Jimbo (James Marshal), who's worked very hard with testing and preparing the Apple Mac builds of SleepyHead.
If you would like to do something nice for Jimbo, or send him some encouragement, you can contact him through his SourceForge user page here.
Limited resources or technical skills?[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
An encouraging letter, postcard, email, etc.. these do wonders for boosting a foggy developers morale.
Please contact me for my address.
Helping others[bewerken | brontekst bewerken]
I try my best to help where I can, but there is simply no way I can give everyone tailored support - I'd never have any time left to code.
I'm very grateful for those on the forums who help others out here.. and this is a great way to help with the project.
Please don't be offended if I miss your posts, or even your Email.. I try my best to keep up to date, but it's simply impossible for me. It certainly doesn't help that I forget things so darn easily. I assure you I'm not deliberately trying to ignore anyone.
